manual hubs wont fit on 4runner HELP!

I have a set of aisin manual hubs from an 87 4runner that i got on ebay...they would not fit..i figured it was just a weird thing. They would not slide all the way back. I dont have a pic of this but there was maybe a 1\4in between the hub and the end of the studs

So i ordered some WARN premium manual hubs from 4WheelParts (thanks paul) hoping they would fix my problem

I got them yesterday and went to install them today.
I yet again pryd of the auto hubs and went to install the hub.I quickly discovered the hubs dont fit. They look like they are even the wrong part... Heres how far they were from the end of the studs

The hub and the axle just dont fit together.. Heres a picture of what my axle at the end looks like...is this diffrent from a regular 4runner?

I want to get these manual hubs on so i can crank my T-bars and not have to worry about needing boots!!! please help!!

thanks in advance

If you have ADD there is NO need for a conversion kit. I installed them on my 95. If you have AUTO hubs you WILL need a conversion kit.

I just put a pair of Aisins on a couple weeks ago and noticed at first they didn't go on all the way. But by making sure the hubs were unlocked and rocking the rotor a bit they popped right on. I got mine off a 90 Toyota pickup with IFS the 87 should be IFS as well and should work. Also make sure the hubs are completely assembled and the springs hold the spline/gear all the way in. Your Warn Premiums should work too, Waskillywabbit was kinda right they didn't have them, but they do now. I'm pretty sure you needed an adapter kit for the non-premiums, double check to see what you have, verify the part numbers to make sure you have the Premiums and the right ones for your rig. Not to steal the tread but, did they even offer AUTO hubs on 4Runners?

Are you sure of having the AUTO hubs, the ADD hub setup would have a smallish vacume canister under the passenger side wheel well in front of the tire/ behind the bumper. I don't think I've ever seen a 4Runner with AUTO hubs but have seen a few pickups with them. From your pics the axle spline seems to extend the right amount. could you maybe post a pic of the old hub?

You do NOT have auto hubs. They are ADD. Scroll down to the '89 4Runner here.

I havent seen a runner with auto hubs either, but he is talking about noisy hubs that not ADD.

ADD, you have drive flanges at the wheel. There is a two piece axle shaft in the long side of the front axle. There is a collar and a shift fork that are vacume accuated to engauge 4wd. The CV's are always spinning.

MAN hubs, just how they sound. The axle shaft is one piece. The CV's only spin when hubs are locked.

AUTO, same setup as manual, but they lock on their own.

His wheel hub looks different than mine with the ADD plates, might be auto hubs. Any pix of what you took off to get to this point?

My Warns went on like butta - seriously, took longer to take the wheel off than install the hubs. The suggestion to make sure the hub is in "4x2" is a good one - I had read that, and did so. After playing with them a bit, I could see where if you had them in "4x4" they might not go on all the way...

I don't know anything about converting auto hubs to manual. But, I do know that you definitely had auto hubs. I also know that you have not fully removed all of the hub. You still have the spring and clutch on the axle.

Also, it won't have any influence on your CV boots. The axle doesn't turn when the auto hubs are disengaged.

Its has been to long since mine were apart to remember what it looked like, but going from ADD to hubs, was VERY VERY easy and quick.

You need the Spindle Nut Conversion Kit, $47 from summit, 71 from 4wheelparts

It says the ADD was an option only, not standard.

Which means that standard would be manual hubs, wouldn't you think? I've never heard of three different hub types on any year Toyota 4wd.

The type of hubs changed within the 1st gen cycle before the 2nd gen came out in 1990. I think the last year of auto hubs was 1988. With the start of 1989, they were ADD (if not manual) hubs.

My 92 4R has that big 2-1/8 or 54mm nut holding the rotor on it and I have Warn Premium, His looks differnt, I see a spring clip and some allen bolts inside.
What is all that for?
The hub studs and locking pins look normal

yes, manual hubs are standard, like the 22R, not RE, until 92...and a 5spd. But there were at times three hub types offered.

A valid point, but no I wouldn't put it past toyota to have three different hubs.

Macrunner, this is an ADD flange, did you take something off that looked like it? (scroll down to the Front Axle Drive Flange.)

Or is your original "hub" pictured in your second picture in the back ground?
