color of brake fluid?
#4
Blueish and greenish tint brake fluid does exist. For example, ATE super blue racing fluid is blue, and is compatible with DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluids, and Hydraulic System Mineral Oil brake fluid [HSMO] has a green tint to it. The HSMO is not compatible with DOT3 and DOT4 fluids, and would normally only be found in cars whose systems are designed to use it.
Like the guys above mentioned, most brake fluid is "nearly" clear when it's fresh (It does have a very slight yellow tint to it.)
If you don't know when it was last flushed, do it anyways. You should be doing it regularly (2 years max).
See this thread for the cheap & easy brake flushing tool I put together.

Gsgallant is right on. The main thing is that the fluid is compatable with your system. Brake fluids vary in color, but the main thing is that the fluid is transparent. If you can't see through it, then flush it. Your fluid can become contaminated too. Most auto parts stores and certainly BG sells test strips to check for contamination. Also, don't keep the fluid on the shelf for very long once it has been open. More than a couple weeks and it's recycle time.
