Can anyone tell me the torque specs on the 6 nuts holding the shaft to the flange I just replaced my wifes cv on her 95 4runner and I torqued the nuts to 95 ft lbs hope it was pretty close.

 

i would like to know too. in all the times i have done it i have never torqued them to a set level, just tight as i can with a standard 1/2 ratchet. its never been a problem to get the off again, but then again i dont have rust issues on the west coast

 

Axle shaft flange to diff flange = 61 ft lbs (Mitchells book)

 

And 61 ft lbs from the factory manual as well

 

I tighted mine with an impact wrench will I be ok

 

the answer to that is the same as what they are now torqued at.............?

 

I guess I will have to check when I replace my lower ball joiont this weekend or next I riped the boot doing the cv joints
Should I be Ok until then you thing?

 

wow 61 is a lot less than what I thought I guess I over torqued by about 30 pounds thanks. Does abyone see a need to replace the studs and nuts now that they have been over tightened I have the add locking hubs and i do not wheel it often .

 

kmcc, im not trying to be rude, but ive answered that. i dont know. since they were put on with an impact, who knows how much torque they have seen, and if it will cause the bolts to fail. so thats why i said=? if you used the impact wrench by itself, without a torque bar, and had it on full power, then they will be torqued to about 95-105% of what the impact wrenches max torque value is. if its a 250ft lb impact, then im going to say no, they will not be ok. if the bolts have been vastly overtightend, they most likely have gone past the elastic region of bolt stretch, and most likely permanetly deformed. i would replace all the bolts with new ones. just depends on how tightly they are torqued right now.

 

No I tightened mine with a torque wrench set at 89 can I just back them off and be ok or just save it till next time and leave it as is
