For those of you who have never been to Pismo, there is something for everyone. The possibilities include, sand duning (obviously), shopping at the tourist places in pismo beach (best clam chowder ever), camping on the beach, mild rock crawling, walking around downtown San Luis Obispo (shopping), visiting Cal Poly, wine tasting and Hearst castle about an hour north. If camping isn't your thing or the only way you can go is if the significant other gets a hotel, then hotels and bed and breakfasts are a couple minutes away. There's also an easy off road trail that winds through a creek and ends up near some waterfalls in the mountains of San Luis Obispo.

Pismo is halfway between LA and San Francisco. It's about 3 hours north of LA and 3 hours south of SF. It's 6 hours from San Diego and 5 hours from my home town of Fallbrook.

Anway, should be a blast and I'm really looking forward to showing you guys around my old stomping grounds!

Oh Yeah, and 2wds are welcom and can drive on the beach to the camp without a problem. The dunes are another story and you will likely need to ride along with somebody.

Steve

I'll be there. I've never taken my 4runner there but used to ride ATVs there as a teen. Its great fun, nice scenery. It can get pretty busy on the weekends as I recall, but if you drive far, there are less crowds.

Beach camping rocks!

Camping is $6 per day, day use is $4 per day. We will find out about camping reservations, anybody interested in going can RSVP on this thread. I think for now, we just need an approximate head count and by no means is it binding.

Anybody interested in staying at a hotel or bed and breakfast instead of camping, must make their own reservations. I can recommend hotels though.

Nonsense When I was attending Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo I used to make the 5 hour drive to Northern San Diego almost every other weekend for a year (had to do my laundry ) It's not a bad drive at all, and it's really scenic. You can stop by santa barbara on the way up.

Something for everybody to keep in mind...you don't necessarily have to come up on Friday the 8th. You're more than welcome to come up on Saturay too.

This is a family oriented outing so bring your significant others, your kids, or even your parents (for you younger guys).

--- I just wanted to revive this thread again.

Steve, I'm bringing my wife who wants to ATV as well. We've never off roaded together as I've only gone twice now.

I searched the 'net and located a great link and trip report put together by some Land Cruiser guys.

Hey Steve and Tom, this is a ready made itinerary we could copy! What do you guys think? If you like it, lets get on IM and discuss. I can put a page together like this once we finalize the details.

Bob

That reminds me, something else to add...ATV's are available for rent at Pismo so that's one more thing you can do there.

I've never been to Cali or seen the Pacific Ocean. This sounds like the perfect excuse to go.

Its on my wish list.

Matt,

It would be totally cool to meet you and to have you out here. Pismo is definitely worth the journey.

Come on guys, don't let Matt be the only out-of-stater considering the trip!

We had a pow-wow last night to start ironing out the details, we'll have more info up soon.
