oil pan and engine block heater???

well i was up under my truck on sunday cleaning it when i notice tuck away was a plug like for a socket. well i folowed the cord and it goes to what i asume is a oil pan and engine block heater. It all started to come together when i remembered that my owners manual is in a case from a dealership in Anchorage AK. I was wondering were the options from the factoryor dealer or would they be aftermarket. Also how would i go about revoving them. I have no experince with these kind of things or have any need for them since I live in SC. Thanks

Usually block heaters replace one of the freeze plugs, if you remove the heater you'll have to put a new freeze plug in it's place. If it isn't leaking I would just leave it, there's no real advantage to removing it.
