rear lift shackles

Well Im pretty sure I am just going to make my own for 10 bucks or so, only thing is on my stock shackles (1994 pickup) they are wider at the top and narrow down. So anyways I am goign to just going to use some sort of spacer on either side of the spring but my question is how much spacer to use? How much skinnier are they where they attach to the spring vs the frame?

Second question I have is just a quick question about lift blocks. I know these are usually looked down upon but I am on a budget and plan on only using a 1 inch or 2 inch at the most. Simple question is...are my stock ubolts long enough to re use after sliding a 1 or 2 inch block in?

This is my weekend project so lets get some reponses!

To find out how wide your shackles should be where they mount to your frame, just measure your existing mount's width then measure the width of your leafs and you'll be good to go.

About your lift blocks - I haven't heard anything about them but if you do choose to use them, a 1" block will give you very little room to work with on your stock U-bolts so at 2" you would need new ones.

Just my $.02

hmmm....not sure if you understand what i mean dealing with the shackles but thanks for the reply.

I am looking to find out how much spacer i should use on either side of the rear leaf spring where it mounts to the shackle inorder to then bolt the top portion of the shackle to the stock location on the frame.

I would just get new U bolts. they are cheap, and you are going to be hard pressed to get a 1inch block. Mine will not fit a 1 inch block. If you stay at 1 inch, you will not have problems, maybe a little more spring wrap, but if you take it easy, not a big deal.

As far as the shackle thing goes, i would tell you to measure your leaf spring, and then measure the shackle you've got at the top where it bolts to the frame. Subtract the leaf spring measurement from the shackle measurement, and divide by two, like this:

(old shackle width-leaf spring width)/2=spacer width for each side.

I made shackles for my 88, but there is not difference in the width of the spring and the mount. In your case I would fab the 2 upright portions of the shackle, then assemble it with spacers, get your finized dimensions, then remove it again and weld in the structural cross member (assuming your adding one)

As for Blocks, in my lowrider days all the belltech block kits i bought came with new u bolts and locking hardware. Blocks are pretty much all the same if your going up or down.
