im looking to upgrade to a rear locker or a rear end that will do better in mud or off road but will also work on the pavement.

 

I'm sure you have heard this a few times already but you would be better off selling and getting a 4x4. I don't know what the locker selection is like for 2wds but if you don't install it yourself it's going to cost something like $500 for parts and labor. That $500 or so is the difference between a 4x4 and a 2wd in roughly the same condition.

 

yea i know, but i like my 2wd because i have pretty much built the whole thing myself. its not a rock crawler but it will off road pretty good. as for doing it myself thats not a problem.

2WD with locker will go just about anywhere a 4WD with open diffs can. (Need to use a lot more momentum though!)

 

momentum = speed and speed = good! thanks for the heads up. the only thing about speed is it can cause alot more damage and if you hit a big mud puddle too fast .... well, engines dont like water in the intake.i learned the hard way.im going to make a snorkel that gets air from inside the cab.

btw tc i grew up in south dayton, oh .. i miss that place.

 

My Question Is Do These Replace My Open Diff Directly Or Do I Need Other Parts? I May Call And Ask , Been Reading The Fsm . My Truck Is An 8 Inch 3.73.

 

Depends on what kind you get - check out the Locker FAQ sticky. "Lunchbox" lockers just replace the spider gear setup. Others replace the whole carrier assembly. If you go with a full case (Like Detroit Locker) it's a good time to consider regearing.
