3.0 no power, rough idle, wont rev over 2500
Alright guys what do you think about this? This 89 3.0 is hard to start, rough idle, wont rev very high, no power (less than usual) lol. All cyclinders have
150 psi, the timing marks are all lined up right, plug wires are in the right spot, new NGK plugs, new fuel filter, gas tank has been taken out and cleaned, new fuel pump, new pressure regulator. Oh yeah by the way this thing will run good for about 3 secconds after you hoze it with starting fluid. Also I bought the truck with this existing grimlen for $50. Its owner liked to work on stuff but they really shouldnt.

Sounds like something is choking out the motor. I would start by looking for a clogged fuel filter or a plugged catalytic converter. After that give it a good tune up. Be sure and post the results if you find something. To check the Cat just unbolt the exhaust if it's not rusted solid right in front of the cat and start it for a minute and see what it does.

Air Flow Meter maybe- mine acted this way after I screwed the connections up on the air box. Ask the owner did he screw with the AFM....

If you can get it to run at all, might try attaching a vacuum gauge to a port on the intake. A vacuum gauge 'can' really help diagnose those pesky problems.

By the sounds of things it sounds like a fuel problem! Did it start not reving after you put the fuel pump, filter and regulator in? I seen this happen when the fuel filter was installed backwards! Make sure you didn't block one of those lines when you did the fuel tank or cross the lines.
One more thing, check the charcoal canister and make sure it's not all fueled up, tell tale sign. You should have your fuel pressure checked also!

Ok guys I have just fixed the problem. Here is the run down, The previous owner put a 2" body lift on the truck. When I got the thing they had tryed to replace the fuel filter and doing so twisted the line off, then got a compression fitting to fix the one twisted line; ok. On the other side they managed to get the filter to unscrew and in the process rounded the nut off. Durning the instillation they further rounded the nut and managed to cross thread it as well. This is where I come in.
I fix the filter problem by cutting everyting they had done out and replacing with fuel injection hoze, filter, and clamps. I found out that it ran terrible, no power etc. Then I check the timing marks on the belt, found to be in perfect order but the belt was a little loose so I put a new one on it. I then chedk compression in all cyclinders (good) and relpace the old plugs with new, still nothing. From here I go ahead and take one bolt out from under the tank and it comes crashing down (they were getting around to takeing the tank out but decided against the idea). Now I am getting somewhere. With the new discovery that the filler neck couldnt reach after the body lift they decided to just fill-er up under the fender-well. Mud, water, debris had been filling the tank for it looks like possibly a couple years. And the fuel pump sock is torn on top of all that. I clean out the tank and while it was out I got a new fuel pump and sock. After the new parts installed it still ran the same. At this point I feel like pushing it out to the street for the trash man to pick up. After I had time to cool off I go ahead and pull the fuel injector rail off and to my amazement found it packed full of rust, sand and what ever else came flying off the tire and in the fuel tank. I go to my garage and pull the fuel rail and injectors off of a blown engine out of my 94 4runner. After all of this the truck is back on the road and running fine. Also I forgot to mention the Air Flow Meter box was smashed up and taped back together with duck tape and I replaced it with the plumbing out of the 4runner. My guess to how the debris got into the fuel rail in the first place is that they must have tryed running the truck w/o a fuel filter just to see if it would fix some other problem the truck had. That is the only way that the goo could get past the in-line filter.
Thanks for all the good advise. By the way the 94 4runner is getting a 5vzfe engine swap so I had some extra parts to trouble shoot with.

From what I understand the kid ran it for about a mounth before he gave up on the truck. When I finally got it running I could barely get it into seccond gear. How on earth could he accutaly go some where with the machine. This is my first Toy I have driven. I also got my 4Runner with a blown motor so this is my first experience with a live one. So far as I can see it the Toys are pretty tough truck!!! If they can with stand such abuce this is the truck for me.
