Old laptop - what should I do with it?

Okay so I've got an 8 year old Toshiba Satellite laptop. It powers on BUT I get a blank screen. I let a friend borrow it and it came back like that (grrr). Should I get rid of it or do you guys think I should take it to get fixed, install an operating program (XP is too much for this laptop for sure, maybe windows 3.1), and turn it into a carputer?

I figure, if anything, it would be good for mp3s (I have yet to succumb to the ipod) and CEL diagnosing.

Any opinions?

Retire the poor thing!

maybe its a vid card issue?

at that point, it wouldnt be worth fixing.

Not sure what the problem is but I haven't turned it on in about 3 years. I just saw it while I was putting something away last night and remembered why I had kept it around.

I have a Satellite that I use in the truck as a programmer for the SMT module and an OBD II interface. OS wise, it's running Win2k just fine.

Do you get the BIOS screen before it goes blank? If so, then its probably related to the OS & video driver somehow. If not, then the card or hinge connectors to the screen have gone bad.
