Timing Belt Quirk!

On a 1994 4Runner 3.0 V6 - I have installed the new belt (a toyota part) and when I turn the engine so the belt makes one revolution, it seems to be off by one tooth. I have reinstalled it twice, making sure it was as tight as possible. The marks line up perfectly on the bottom of the crank and at the top of both cam gears. After it goes around once, the mark on each cam gear and the crank is one tooth over from where it started. I am turning the engine clockwise, the tensioner is in place.

I have done this before and not had any trouble. Does anyone kow what the deal is with this thing?

if you have done everything correctly, the marks will be off a bit more each revolution. the belt does not follow a symetrical path. iirc, you are to turn it clockwise two turns as per the fsm.

Ignore the marks on the belt, they're for initial set up only. Turn the engine 2 full revs and make sure the marks on the actual pulleys are still lined up. Like Lee said the marks on the belt will be off more nad more each turn.
