Cracked exhaust manifold??

I have 95 22re and I think the manifold is cracked. The truck is quiet (under hood) when cold but when at operating temps it is loud.

Any tips on replacing it?

Steve

well the 22re is a 2 peace manifold the down pipe is the one the always cracks its easy to put new gaskets in but they just leak again later the best thing to do if you have the money is to buy a good header that will give a noticable increase in power

a lot of the time it's the downpipe. and about the header argument...look at the 22RE's flow design. each group of ports goes into a common runner, which join up under the cab....just like a full-length tri-Y header!

the PO of my '91 truck said the downpipe kept cracking so it was converted to a 1 piece and then a short Y to the 2 ports on the manifold...no problems so far.

Hey I just had the pipe put on that hooks to the manifold.. I just drove it to a party and it was loud when cold and worse when hot.

Any other ideas?

Just buy a new manifold. I bought mine at Advance - it came with the gasket and was like $80 or something, maybe less.

Before replaceing the manifold, check the studs! It is very common for the studs to strip out and pull out. There is a wealth of info on fixing the problem.
