Warn sells manual hub conversion kits?
#1
Hello all, I am new here, from ttora mostly. heard about you folks there and I though't I'd post this in both places and see what the response was.
I wrote to warn to ask if they made a simple kit to replace the original hubs for my 1995.5 Taco that came originally with the ADD system to manually selectable units.
the email was as follows.....

Rich,
Yes, you are correct. Here are the installation instructions for your review. (attached)
The hub set you would need for your truck is part number 28761 and will retail for around $175/pair. These are available through any auto parts store or four wheel drive store.

so these hubs convert the ADD front hubs which are always engaged and changes them to a manual type of hub. Is this correct?
thank you, rich
Any reflections folks?
nice to meet you all.

Welcome to Yotatech!
My suggestion is get some used Aisin manual hubs (usually about $50) which are original equipment on 4WD Toys without the ADD. Try out our search feature by searching "Aisin hubs" for more info. Make sure you get the correct spline count. Solid axle hubs won't fit an IFS.
Edit. I know this is a SIMPLE conversion on a 2nd gen 4Runner or pickup. If it is different for a Taco, somebody chime in so I don't look like an

I just ran a search for "aisin hubs taco" and found a few results...seems that you have to spend quite a bit of dough to completely convert them.
Do the same search I did and see what you find.

yeah...for 95.5+ tacos and 4runners, its not NEAR as simple as 2nd gens... the cheapest way to do it is go to a junkyard and get the manual hub components and cvs from a tacoma and have a shop swap the stuff over (you need a big press).
it'll still cost around $400-500 to do.

Yeah, that is the conclusion we all came to as well on the TTORA board. this jackyassal didn't listen. After the third response to him he responded with a
'well son, that is not what we offer. We have the hub conversion kit, but not the kit that converts your truck to manual hubs...."
I am not sure what he thought complete kit meant... but obviously you could take his daughter out for a 'complete' date and the yahoo must not think it means much.
This was the outer hubs only that they offered. You need to change your actual axles from the ADD style to the manual hub style, as well as press in and out the bearings in the front spindle to acomodate the proper axles........ it is easier to find a donor vehicle to tell yall the truth and get axles, hubs and knuckles already assembled.
oh well, now we know.

You only have to press all that junk in and out if you have ABS. Otherwise, you can get spindles, axles, and outer locking hubs from a junkyard, and its just a matter of spending a few hours bolting it all up
