2007 FJ Cruiser Pricing & Packages
I was scooped. The TMS guys are still out partying after a record setting 2005 year-end close last night. Thanks to john.com, who seems to work in the Toyota Cincinnati Regional office, for posting this info. This sure reads like a Toyota memo, and if accurate is very encouraging news. Note the 4X4 M/T includes a standard locking center Torsen full-time driveline from 4Runner and RR locker standard. The 4X4 A/T has the Tacoma part-time system and optional RR locker. When they told me mid-$25K well equipped, they weren't kidding.

If we were buying one, I'd get a silver one with the steelies. Remember the interior color trims is the same as the body, so the silver accents would look like aluminum, which looks better than all the other colors.

I like the Silver, but the black steelies look circa '63 VW Bug. I'm holding out for the triple-black Special Edition, or whatever it'll be called, that will have unique wheels and tires.
What surprises me about this thread is that other forums that posted the info about the same time have hundreds of views and dozens of posts indicating tremendously positive response, but nada here.
I think it's more commentary about the new, overly fragmented forum style, with apologies to all of those who put so much into the effort. Maybe this would get more responses in Off Topic if I re-title it to something like "What do the Xterra/Jeep/Hummer owners think of the FJ Cruiser pricing?".

I wonder how many will be available around here and how many were ordered??
I would be interested to see what the long-term 25k+ miles treats it. It is an interesteing platform at a nice price.
Time will see how the fit and finish is.

I posted last month that dealers will each get one at start-up, then 1-2 per month after that based on (guesstimate) SUV's as % of total sales. That's on average, the bigger stores get more while at this limited volume the little guys will wait for the big fish for the first six months or so.
I expect quality to be more toward 4Runner levels of fit and finish. It's a North American vehicle only, Toyota's most important market, so it'll get the highest quality (of three levels) of parts and assembly tolerances.
Then there's the "Made In Japan" aspect. I'm one of those who believe the JDM produced iron IS better than North American iron, especially in the areas of paint, fit and finish.
There are rumors floating around that it will be built in the flagship Tahara plant, but I doubt it. Tahara is geared to world cars and trucks and big numbers like Prado, 4Runner, LX, Land Cruiser and LS. I think these might be built in one of the boutique plants, like the former MR2 Spyder was, or more likely a Hino facility and the Honsha Plant in Toyota City. I'll take a picture of the Portland auto show FJC built label to see where they're made.
The only downside to the boutique plants is the extra rail transport step to arrive at the Tahara shipping facility. The sides can accumulate slightly more rail dust, industrial fallout and marine environment grunge, mostly removed during port prep and the rest by a claybar before polishing and waxing. Then go get it covered in mud.
Pricing, hmm. I can't imagine the greedy West Coast dealer NOT slamming ADP side stickers on these, at least for the first year. I think an MSRP deal will be rare for the first 90 days. Toyota doesn't have the Scion MSRP dealer restraint agreement, so it might take some legwork. At least we'll have it better than our hapless Canadian buyers. I think Canadian Driver magazine said only 500 are coming into the country this year.

See how its perfroms OFF ROAD...

The Jan/Feb issue has shipped and should be arriving in mailboxes
nationwide soon. Be warned, however, that it can take up to four weeks, as
the magazine bulk rate can be pretty inconsistent. Be patient; it's on
the way!
The cover and main feature is on the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. We
published over ten pages on this amazing new vehicle, with four drive reports
and 23 full color photos. We got Joe Bacal, Toyota's offroad test
driver, to write a report on his journey in the FJ Cruiser across the
Rubicon Trail. Now that's the kind of story you want to read! Everything from
the crawl ratios to the Garmin navigation system are detailed--it's
awesome. You won't find a better feature on this machine in any other
magazine.
Overall, we think it's a cool 4WD Toyota. There is no solid front axle,
but that's hardly surprising. The manual tranny has better crawl ratios
than the automatic. One of our main pet peeves is the huge B-pillar,
which kills a lot of the rear-seat passenger's views, and makes for a big
blind spot for the driver. On the good side, this thing can wheel! The
photos of it doing the Con should prove that. Plus, our editors drove
it in the sand and desert wastes near Palm Springs, and it came out a
winner. It'll be fun to get one of these and Project it out--lift,
bumper, etc. Which reminds us, over 60 companies at last count have signed on
to make aftermarket parts for the FJ Cruiser, so you can expect to see
lots of goodies for this rig.
Price for base models looks to be as follows:
4x4 AT $23,300
4x4 MT $22,890
4x2 AT $21,710

Riiiight.
Unless Toyota forces them, they will take whatever the market will bear.
I remember when the first SR5 4Runners hit the showroom. The ADM was insane - and they got it! There was a waiting list if you wanted a loaded Runner (and who didnt?) This practice lasted more than a year, and that was not a limitied production item. (Well, not intentionally anyway - turned out Toyota totally underestimated how well it would sell and did not have the manufacturing capability to keep up - I remember seeing photos of thousands of topless 4Runners lined up in rows - waiting for roofs. Didja ever wonder why so many 84s had white roofs even tho it didn't go with the paint scheme? That's why.)
Anyway, you can damn betcha the first year of these things will sell for big markups. Unless of course, no one actually wants them. People ooh and ahh over new stuff but then don't actually plunk down the cash sometimes...

Phil, ya gotta point there. I'm certain ppl will go gaga over this and will be hotcakes but from what one Toy dealership that I'm close with told me msrp and nothing more. Apparently their policy has always been msrp so this will definitely be interesting. They told me that when the Prius first came out they stuck it to msrp and did well so I guess we'll have to see.
I wouldn't mind gettin one but unfortunately I've got no cash so boo for me! If someone wants to hook me up
I'm all yours! hehe

Here is a dealer taking pre-orders already (they claim "a guarantee that you will be sold the vehicle at MSRP"

Actually, if you read other parts of the forum, there seems to be quite a few folks already getting on to lists. The folks over there sound like they are ready to wet thier pants over the impending release of the FJC

I wonder how quickly suspension lifts will become available? The first rumors said it was based on the 4Runner, but it's not, it's the Lancruiser Prado platform and from the pics it looks different than the 4Runner.
I was only mildly interested until I saw the pricing - do you realise that it comes nicely equipped (no strip down base price) and if you compare it to the correctly optioned equivalent Wrangler it's 8 grand cheaper?! In my mind it compares to a Rubicon Unlimited, with hard top, a/c, cruise etc (and the FJ is still nicer than the most loaded TJ) which prices out at $32k before destination and ADM. Now THAT's a value!!
BUT, the 07 Wrangler is indeed all new as well, with a new body (wider, restyled) and more sophistication to the suspension and the interior. If they offer the turbodiesel as promised - I would spend the 10 grand +- more for that I'm afraid...
