Computer Monitor Screen Shaking

This has been going on for a couple months now, and finally thought I'd get around to asking someone about it.

The screen on my monitor keeps shaking back and forth horizontally. Sometimes the whole screen will shift two or three mm to the left/right, sometimes the screen will strech or shrink that amount. It's like it's dancing. I've sorta gotten used to it, but it's bugging me tonight.

The monitor is 4 years old, so I'm thinking it's just dying. It's a Dell CRT 21" screen.

Any quick fix?

There are speakers by it, but they've always been there and this problem just started recently.

I'll check out that site, I'm already pretty set on what I want next - LCD flat screen 24"

There can be several causes to the problem, improperly placed magnets (speakers), power wires, but in the end it does signify your monitor is in need of hospice care almost every time. I have had several iiyama 21's go out on me the same way. They still work but the picture just got horrid. I mean we just have to face it LCD's are just way cooler than CRT's any day of the week too.

I am also have been looking at 24'' inchers (the 2405FPW looks nice), but untill my Dell 2001FP's start giving me problems, there just is no need.

Keep checking techbargains.com & techdeals.net, almost weekly they have the 2405FPW for less than $900.

What Pete said. I had the identical monitor and it did some of the same tricks for two weeks before it blew with an impressive display of arcs and sparks.

The Dell 24" was available for $775 shipped a couple weeks ago with a code from techbargains.com that expired after 4,000 uses. I ordered the second day of the offer and it had expired already.

Well that's a lovely thought.
I leave it on all the time.

I'll keep an eye on those sites. The 24" shall be mine, oh yes, it shall be mine.

Have you checked the Refresh Rate? It could be set to high or to low.

Go 24" Dell FP. You won't be sorry.

As far as the shaking, it's your room...and that's called an earthquake...

Cebby's monitors smaller brother, the Dell 2005 FPW 20.1" widescreen LCD.

Both these Dells get very high reviews.
I would never go back to a CRT after using this for several months now.

The 20.1" one like mine can be had for $375 to $395 on sale from Dell quite often.
Retail is around $700 or so on it.

$899.25 Right now. Make sure if you use DVI vs VGA, you'll thank me later.

CalRockx try to degauss your monitor. It may resolve the problem.

Lay off the coke a little and the shaking will probably stop.
