'90 4runner - Installing cd player: do you need to remove whole dash?

I want to install my cd player so that it is flush, but it seems like you need to remove the whole dash almost... or at least the bottom half. Is this the only way? Its such a pain in the arse to do all of this just for a cd player.

I just want to make sure this is whats needed.

on a 2nd gen? think again! Allocate 1hr for total install if you know what you are doing... If you dont, allocate 2-3

on a 3rd gen? Agreed! - 10 min install

on a 4th gen? takes about 30 min to install.

Ive worked on all 3...

Your local circuit city will give you a free install and if you buy the deck with them the harnesses will only cost ya 20 bux. And those harnesses are WORTH every penny! If you were near me I could def hook ya up for 20 bones...

You may need a pocket if you dont have one already... Pockets for the 2nd gen are met 88008000, the harness is a met 801761, and then you'll need a radio side harness for whatever deck you buy.
