Alaskan Highway - Next Summer

Hi all,

Some friends and I are planning to drive to Alaska next summer, and I was wondering if anyone here has done it? Also, I was wondering about what adventures I could find offroad on the way up.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated!

-Mike

Starting Point(s)

Well, I am starting from Los Angeles and heading up the coast. Will be meeting up with fellow travelers in Washington and then head from there.

Thanks for pointing me to the other thread, I'll check that out!

Been there, done that! I drove the Alcan highway a couple years back, it was an awesome trip (from Seattle). Search a bit and you should be able to find my thread on it. Get yourself a copy of "The Milepost" which is a great travel guide for B.C/the yukon/Alaska.

Adventures are of no shortage, especially up the HWY 97 stretch in BC. Trails are abundant on the side of the highway. Some are good, some are not.

Like Chemist said, get a copy of The Milepost, it tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. No joke.

When you hit Whitehorse, I can be your tourguide of the surrounding area if you'd like. I don't have a big cozy shop for you to wrench in though

I'm in the middle of watching this for the first time right now:

It's a tad dated, but not much has changed since it was filmed.
Worth the buy for an insight into what you'll find along the way.
