So... I have two 10" subs at this moment and I ordered two more.
I wa wondering... What if two were sealed and two were ported?
I know I'd probably cancel out some frequencies, but what benefits or drawbacks do you see with this?

keep them all in the same style box ported or sealed. being 10's sealed would fit the sound they are designed for. tight punchy bass. keep them facing the all the same direction if you can this will eleminate cancelation

Thanks... I kinda figured that...
I built a sealed box for one already, and it wasn't what I expected. Everything was built to specs of the driver, just doesn't sound right unless it is in the back of the 4R facing anyway but towards me, but they will be going in a Tacoma.

how much are L7 15s at your shop? like fruitstripe said make them all sealed or all ported.. 10s sound alot better sealed than ported.. with 12s you can go either way but it just depends on what brand you get.. if you get l7s like me then i would get ported boxes... but you probably dont want to be buying a 2000 w amp and 700 dollars per speaker and a box that cost 300 dollars...one reason why it sounds better facing away is that the sound waves are bouncing off the back towards the front.. if you want them to sound loud outside the 4runner face them towards the back glass, if you want them to be loud just on the inside face them towards the driver, you may not have enough air space in your sealed box and that could cause your sub to sound odd..

Here is a better explanation about bass cancellation. Yeah, it shows a sedan, but you get the idea.

In addition to my earlier post, facing them foward will sound like doo doo. If you don't believe me, try it. Up, to the sides or backwards in a 4runner. Downfiring works too if you know how to build the enclosure properly.
There are instances where firing a woofer foward would work. But thats when you install them inside the tailgate...where else would they fire? Plus you wouldn't be able to fit but a very select few woofers in a tailgate anyways.
Didn't mean to get on your case. Just finished talking to an idiot lady that asked me why her radio sounded "fuzzy", and why she couldn't get a refund. Example of what happend: In houston, we have an alternative radio station on 94.5 FM. The next radio station is a country station i think 95.7FM. She made a BIG freaking deal about her radio being "fuzzy" on some stations while it not being "fuzzy" on other stations.
At 94.5FM she was ok. At 94.7FM she was pissed, at 94.9FM she was pissed, same goes for the rest of the stations until you hit 95.7FM. I don't think I need to finish the story.

I compete in dB drag and have for quite a while, also install professionally.

Welcome to the forum.

ps - all the same way is actually overrated!
How do you think we gain a good 1.2dB or so in the lanes with merely changing 1 or 2 subs positions instead of both or all 4....
