Do I need to resurface drums with new brake shoes?

This is for my van, but I thought I'd check with you guys. I had new brake shoes put on yesterday and they told me I also needed to get the drums resurfaced. They said if I can come back in the next two weeks, it would be ok. Does this sound right, or just another reason to get me in the shop? - thanks

They should have resurfaced the drums before installing the new shoes!! Never heard of driving one for a couple of weeks and then resurfacing... the shoes won't last as long if drums were not properly turned, surfaces and shoes arched. Good Luck

If your drums are not warped and dont have any grooves in them you dont "need" to get them resurfaced. Just break the glaze on them with some 80 grit paper. I have always done this and been just fine. As long as the drum is not damaged.

If they have grooves or are warped the damage will already be done to your new shoes in two weeks. The shoes will wear into the shape of the drums in that time.

How much are they going to charge to resurface the drums?

take the cover off of your drum and check the inside. if its rough then you should resurface it
