Hi I have a 1997 4runner sr5 5speed with 144,000 miles on it. I have had the car for about ~5000 miles before that my mom drove it. She didn't really pay attention to the car that much so I can not tell you when this problem began. The probelm is there is a moderate vibartion when the engine rpms go above 2500. The engine is completly smooth before this but bam right at 2500 rpms I can feel the vibration in the gas pedel and in the floorboard of the car and it is audible. When i rev the engine in neutral the vibration is not present. The clutch has never been replaced the car bucks every now and then in first and second but it isn't completly shot or anything. Someone told me that a bad clutch could warp the flywheel?? or does it sound like the driveshaft is unbalanced? any help would be apreciated.

 

Maybe its wheel balance and alignment. Is it tied closely to rpms or speed?

 

its def not wheels. It is tied strictly to rpm...happens in every gear at same rpm regardless of speed

 

also the vibration is not in the steering wheel at all. Seems to be coming from engine/drivretrain

 

The one time I had that problem it ended up being a bad driveshaft u-joint.
