Im getting ready to install my new Toyota thermostat and realized that I forget what way it goes in! Does the spring side go toward the rad or the block? Does the little ball thing go up or down or does it matter? What is the purpose of the ball thing anyway? Any quick help would be great! Thanks again, Matt

 

Spring towards the block. On a 3.0 I believe the ball thing should be at 12 oclock.

 

Spring goes towards the block, and the little 'ball thing' goes up. It's supposed to let air through so you don't get a pocket trapped behind the thermostat.

 

i just usually rip that little ball thingy out, or drill another 1/16" hole in there to make double sure no air gets trapped behind the thermostat.
