I have a chrome bumper on my '99 SR5. I've seen the older 96-98 base models that came with the grey bumper. I tried ordering this at 1sttoyotaparts.com and taprecycling.com and both told me that they "think" the bumpers are different. They said that the newer models 99-02 have a different reinforcement and that the bumpers are not interchangeable.

Now the questions: 1. Does anyone know this for a fact? and 2. Did Toyota make a base model runner in 99-02 that had a stock grey bumper? I'm not asking about limiteds, highlanders, etc., just whether there was a base model.

Not positive about the rear bumpers being different but i know the front bumper reinforcements are different.

If you are looking for a rear bumper but just in a different colour, why dont you just colour match and paint your chrome one?

 

I know that bamachem and waskillywabbit prepped and painted a chrome bumper but the body shop guys that I've talked to say it's a PITA. They have to send it out for some special prep work, then they can paint it. I was thinking doing a full swap would be easier and maybe cheaper. Oh well, I'll have to think about it a little more.

 

just do it yourself. you can order factory paint.

 

Don't know if this will help you, but my '98 SR5 'runner has the gray bumpers.
