I have noticed lately when I start my truck when its warm, the alternator had a slight whine to it. The whine is a bit more noticeable when I have my lights on. It usually only whines for a mintue or so after start up, but every once in a while I will notice it when driving. What could be causing the whine? Is it a sign of the alt. going bad? Any help would be appreciated.

It *could* be. Whens the last time you replaced the belts?

 

how do you know its your alternator?

easy, take the belt off, start up the truck and see if you still have the whine.

if not, take it off and take it up and have it tested.

 

Pretty sure it the alternator that is whining, belts are in good shape.
