The carriers are almost the same.
Well yeah, there is a difference. The carrier bearings on a 4cyl are 45MM and the Carrier bearings on a v6/turbo diff are 50 MM. The differential carriers are the same, even in the off-set housing, "special" factory 4.88 units.
Now the good news is that you want to use a BIG BEARING carrier in a little bearing housing. This is the same thing as putting a ARB RD23 (v6/turbo locker) in place of the old RD01. You just need to find and install the right bearings.

well if you want a locker maybe ill sell ya mine..
2nd gen 4unners, auto, with 31's from the factory, had 4.88's. BUT the 3rd member that it comes in will ONLY work with those gears so if you want to step up to 5.29's you need a normal 3rd. Other than that they are great.
