Need to cut a section out of my cab mount .

I need to cut a section out of my front cab mount . I need to do this to clear larger tires . This is on a 05 tacoma. What can happen if this piece is cut and rewelded. Here are some pics of the piece im refering to. You can see the area the tire is rubbing due to the dirt being rubbed clean.

as long as you box in the section that you cut out to retain the strength, you will be fine.

regular hot rolled mild steel will be fine, as for thickness of material, it depends on how much you want to cut out. i would say go 3/16" to play it safe.
