I have a leak where my oil pan mates to the engine block. When I rebuilt the motor two years ago, the gasket kit I bought came with two gaskets; one for the pan to baffle, and one for baffle to block. I put them on, and have had a leak pretty much ever since. I was reading my Haynes manual yesterday, and they did not show a gasket going on either application, just RTV sealant. Anyone agree or disagree with that, or have other advice? I'm going to be taking off the oil pan in the next couple weeks because I'm tired of my driveway looking like crap! Thanks in advance!

 

Well I also thought that I had an oil pan leak. It turned out being the oil pump seal and front main seal that wear both leaking around the oil pan. You want to check into looking at both of those seals. Just my .02 cents!

 

toyota 4 cylinders are notorius for leaking at the oil pump o ring......

beyond that, it could be the pan... as far as i recall, and i have a brand new one downstairs as im doing the timing chain right now, there is 1 pan gasket....

from everyone i have talked to, they say use the stock gasket but put toyota form in place black rtv on both sides of the cork gasket to assure leak free state.... i have heard that the standard ultra grey rtv available at most auto parts stores is the same as toyotas fipg

 

Sorry guys, once again I forgot to specify that I have a 92 pickup, 3vz V6 Engine. My fault!

 

My 89 6v 4runner only had rtv stock.

I switched to the T100 2x4 oil pan with the bolt on windage tray and used only RTV on the pan seal. no leaks at all.

PS drilling and tapping holes in the cast iron bearing cap with the engine in the truck was a pain in the butt. You guys with the newer 3vze's usually have the holes already in there.

 

I used the black Toyota FIPG (Form In Place Gasket) material on my oil pan. Has worked leak-free for about 6 years now.
