Help!!! my son's pride and joy isn't working right. He took it to auto shop and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. He then took to repair shop spent $300.00 on tune up, now they say its either the ignition coil, igniter, or distributor, but they say there is no test to figure out just what it is. Does anyone know a way to test? Does anyone know the most likely problem?
Don't want to spend $$ on igniter only to find out it's the distributor!
truck dies/stalls, backfires and then is hard to start. This is his baby. He saved his money and bought it before he even had his license.

 

if it runs at all, it's most likely not the ignitor or coil. those tend to just go plain dead.

have they checked the ignition timing? those symptoms are kind of typical of really bad timing.
