Oil Pressure question.

I have a 94 22R-E Pickup. I just now started to notice something, My oil pressure used to be right in the middle of the gauge during normal driving, However now its lower than usual when I drive normally. If I get on it it was rise up and sit where it normally does but then drop back down. is my oil pump going out or could be it that im low on oil or need to change it?

this is a pretty common thing ... the consensus seems to be that these engines don't need a lot of pressure, just enough oil in the sump.

i'd check to see if you have any leaks, and if you're in fact low on oil. if things look ok, just keep watching.

the toyota FSM claims that 4-5 psi at warmed up idle for the 3vze is normal.

All of my Toyotas (and my fathers too) have done that when they are either a quart low (seldom) or due for an oil change. Like clockwork, the pressure would drop at idle after 3 to 4k miles - time for oil change. Dunno why, I think it's probably something like because the oil filter is getting clogged and the bypass is now working - and this causes a pressure difference at idle that isn't normally there.
