Ok well I tried searching but it wasn't working for me so here it goes. I believe my front pinion seal is leaking..only question I have is this a major problem? If not I wont mind if it is leaking or not, doesnt really matter to me that much. I just want to check and make sure there are no ill effects from it leaking? Oh and is there any links that would help with steps to replace the seal if I need to? Thanks.

 

Generally easy to replace. Remove driveshaft, unstake nut (if the same as the rear, it is 30mm and has a lip that gets dimpled/staked into a groove in the pinion shaft). Loosen nut, remove old seal, install new seal (grease the lip), install nut, taking care to put it on in the same position it was before, line up dimple in groove, re-stake, re-install driveshaft and you are done.

 

Ok well then ill do that for sure, however if i dont get around to it for awhile...is there a possibility of hurting anything?

 

if you dont have manual hubs just make sure that its full, if you do have man. hubs, dont worry about it, nothings spinning

 

You could always check the pinion flange for play. Sometimes it'll leak just because the nut has backed off the pinion flange. If it is loose, it should be tightened up (~90 ft.lbs.) before using front wheel drive. Also, you might also check your diff. breather to make sure it is not clogged. If the vent gets plugged, pressure can build up inside the axle and force oil out past the weakest seal.

 

Make sure you grease up the little spring thing and that part of the seal nice and good. When I changed mine it was a royal PITA to get the old seal out so be prepared for a fight, if it doesn't come out don't worry just rip her out you wont hurt anything...oh and watch for the old spring mine shot out and almost hit me in the face. Extend your breather while your in there

Did you use the vent that was in that diff? If you did that was the old one that came out of the 85 housing I used. I had a barbed fitting on the IFS diff witch I kept. I screwed the old vent in there to plug the hole. I'm sure that vent was all plugged up. Something you might check into
