Stock head unit swap??

I have a stock cd/cass/am/fm stereo from a 2001 toyota tundra and I was wondering if I could install it on my 1990 toyota 4runner?? I already tried installing it but the wiring plugs doesn't match up in the back of the head unit from the tundra. I don't want to spend more than $20 to get this installed cause if I do then I just might as well get an aftermarket stereo. Could I get the original wiring harness from toyota for the tundra and modifiy it to work with my original wiring plugs from my 4runner?? Anybody have any ideas??? Thanks!!!

check out www.installdr.com and see if you can find the wiring diagram and colors for both vehicles. As long as you can match them up, you should be ok. I'm just worried that you don't know how to properly connect two wires.

was it just one male plug from your 90 4runner into dual female plugs on the back of the tundra stereo? if so, that single male plug from your 90 4runner might be the amp. see step 4 in my writeup at www.4runners.org/articles/headunit

Yea that its, so now how would I be able to hook it up??? If I were to purchase a wiring kit for an aftermarket head unit for my 90 runner I then would have loose wires coming from the runner. The stock head unit from the 01 Tundra has no wires because the wires that were originally there were plugged into the stock amp when a aftermarket head unit was installed on that truck. So does anybody know what wires to hook up to the backend of the 01 Tundra stereo if I get a radio wiring harness for my 90 Runner???

yeah, better to just get an aftermarket unit. for the same $$$, you get so much more. sell the toy radio you have and apply the funds to the new stereo

I just got an Alpine deck from best buy for $222 and the orignal price was $281 because there was an employee discount sale on Sat from 8am to 10am. And I only got the plactic pocket/cd case holder and the wiring kit for only $6. I got a pretty good deal in my opinion. If only I had enough money for the ipod interface and new speakers at the time!!!
