Inverted front leafs (85 4r)

The front springs in my 85 are past flat now... the rear are near flat. The truck sits basically level.

Can you add-a-leaf the front? Will I need to shim it for caster?

I did a front & rear shackle lift on my FJ62 and really didn't like the ride. It wasn't that it was stiff, it's that it was bone jarring as the longer shackles were practically straight up and down.

Will an AAL be the same way? Stiff ride is not problem, bone jarring jolts are.

I run 31's right now and have no plans to go bigger until AFTER I regear the tcase and diffs. So I'd like to avoid dropping big coin on a full 4-spring lift that I don't need.

Not to mention all the other maintenenace stuff I'm doing. Is it ok to have the leaves like that??

Advice appreciated.

That is pretty much normal for the stock springs:

W/ stock steering, it is hard to add a leaf since you are really tight on the steering arm clearance on the driver's side. Look at that area on your truck to see what I am talking about. You might be able to swap in a stiffer leaf in place of an existing leaf if you are lucky, but 4 thin leaves is pretty much the max. Swap over to crossover steering or flip the ball on the stock steering arm and you can do a lot more.
Longer shackles work up front, especially if you add a wide body shackle:
