What is a 3 link and do iI need one?
I recently bought a 1990 4Runner and made a few mods(3.4 motor, Downey intake and header, Superwinch manuel locking hubs, Detriot locker 32in. BFGs). Today was the day to brak in the truck. Ive done alot of offroading, exploring old mines but only on utlity ATVs. I bought the truck to bring the wife and kids along to see the cool stuff and places the not many people can easiely get to. Anyway today I was on a black diamond trail in near Big Bear and at my most memorial point I had the truck on three wheels with the right rear up in the air. It was very tense moment for me as the truck felt as thiough it wanted to roll onto its side. With the situation I discribed does it sound like a 3 link would have helped. I'm not entirely sure what a 3 link is but It sounds like it diconnects the rear sway bar to allow the airbourne whell to come down. Is this correct? and is so would a 3 link be what I needed in todays run. Is there a kit for the 3 link?

Afaik a 3 link just describes the method of holding your axle, 3 being the number of links to the frame (takes on panhard bar and traction bars). You can disconnect the rear swaybar which will give you a little better flex but probably not to the extent that woulda helped you today...sounds like you just need more flex via new springs

are you currently running any lift? If not you could look into Cruiser coils ~1.5-2" lift, some OMEs available in diff amounts of lift not sure what else Downey probably makes some. Do a search on 4 runner springs or 4 runner lift and you'll come up with some good info...you could always do a leaf swap

Although you felt like you were going to tip, you probably had a long ways to go before you did. If you have a locker, then you don't need to worry about that wheel in the air, it will come down again. I don't think more flex is going to help you very much, you'll still feel like you're going to tip. Not only that, but if your rear wheel was in the air, it means your front is not flexing, and i doubt you'll get more much more flex out of the front end.

That's a good point these things definately will feel like they want to go over but actually aren't nearly there. One time I was going over a a small 2ftish tall lump thing with a sidehill next to it and I had my truck so far over that I could stick my arm out the window and rest my palm on the ground, drove right thru it though no roll.
