I put in some Nokya Hyper Ion Yellow Stage I Xenon H3 Fog Bulbs

I got them for $21 + $1.95 shipping on Ebay.

I love them! A really nice bright yellow color and they really light up the lower half of the road!

Excellent! I replaced my H3's with Hella Yellowstars. BIG diff during night time rain and fog conditions.

 

Nice job! I replaced the stock bulbs that came in my 8" Explorer Pro Comps and the new bulbs made a world of difference.

 

Mine sucked, they didnt look yellow at all. I bought 2pairs of these Yellow star bulbs. could not be compared to PIAA Ion yellows. they looked more like goldish with purple spots...I took them all out and just painted the lens with bulb paint and put in regular bulbs.

 

The intent is to cut down on glare by going to the yellow end of the light spectrum. Having lamps that put out pure yellow light was not my intent and is not required to reduce glare from fog and rain. If you watch oncoming traffic at night, pay attention to those headlights that are yellowish compared to other headlights. Those are the guys that don't complain (as much) about poor weather visibility at night.

A good lamp at the yellow end of the spectrum mounted low on the vehicle with a short, wide beam pattern is what you want for fog and rain. I also will reduce my regular headlights down to DRL level when the conditions are REALLY poor. Works for me.

 

Yellow is less reflective on fog and rain than higher spectrum lighting in the blue/white range. I figure with the combo of both that I am good for all types of night driving.

Not to burst your bubble, but I think you'll find that you will get about 3-4 months out of those bulbs and at least one of them will burn out (ie filament will rupture). I had a set of Raybrig White Sonic H3s when I had my HID kit installed and they lasted about three months. I then went the route you did and installed the Piaa Ion Yellow H3s. They lasted about three or four months. I haven't had great luck with the Silverstar H3s, but my current set has lasted for at least seven or eight months. Don't count on them lasting very long at all. Sorry.

I only use them on foggy days...so I won't bug me too much. I don't use them all the time. No big deal.

 

Ditto on only using them on foggy days. My fog lights are on ONLY under medium or heavier fog or rain at night. But if you think it's cool to have them on whenever the engine is running, be my guest. I have stock in one of the major lamp manufacturers! Ya' gotta love people that have their lamps (other than DRL's) on all day!

 

I should have kept my mouth shut. I went out to my truck about two hours after I posted the message above to go get something to eat and guess what.....the passenger side Silverstar H3 fog lamp bulb had burned out yet again. I'm telling you, for some reason you CANNOT get the life out of any H3 bulb that you can from a headlamp bulb. The Silverstar headlamp bulbs have been reliable, but their H3s suck just like all others. I swear it's a never ending damn money pit!!

I think it's the heat issue that causes premature burnout of the H3 bulbs.

 

My Hella H3 Yellowstars are about 2 years old, but then again, I doubt I have more than 100-200 hours on them.

 

I emailed Sylvania a couple of days ago and basically ripped them a new one for the burn out issue that I've had with their H3 Silverstar bulbs. Their response was that the rated life of the bulb is only 100 hours (conveniently, that's not on the package anywhere...Imagine that). She said that they should only be used in foggy conditions and were not designed to be run all the time. She also went on to explain that the pure white light output from the Silverstars (I don't know if she's looked at them lately but they are whiter than normal bulbs but far from pure white) was a trade off for shorter bulb life. Funny, I've only replaced one headlamp in two years and the H3s burn out like theres no tomorrow. They are going to send me one, maybe two, replacements but basically to sum it up in a nut shell, she said it's the way they are designed.
