I brought my 03 4 Runner V8 SR5 in for the 30K service yesterday. Also complained for the 2nd time of warped brakes and asked for them to check things out. All the rotors were replaced under warranty at 18K. They found a seized front piston as the source of the issue.

Apparantly the caliper designed changed on the 4th Gen 4 Runners and the dealer went to install and noticed that the one that came in wasn't the same as the one on the truck. Now the correct caliper is 2-3 days away.

So, what upset me is the dealer told me the Regional Rep. came in yesterday here in New England. Apparantly, Toyota has changed their warranty policy. I can't get a loaner for the overnight stay anymore. The dealer must have 8 billable hours in to the car before they issue a rental or loaner. He also told me I'm totally covered for my rotors, pads, and caliper under warranty but Toyota will not be covering brake rotors past 15K miles anymore.

Can someone confirm this? Should I press the loaner issue?

 

I looked in my 05 Owner's Warranty Information booklet in the Transportation Assistance section (p.3). Since yours is still under warranty, check out your booklet and verify what it says for your 03.

Mine says for my 05 that transportation assistance (loaner vehicle?) applies if 1) the warranty repairs will take longer than one day to complete, or 2) if the condition requires extensive diagnosis, or 3) if the parts are not readily available and your 4R is inoperative or unsafe to drive.

If your warranty is like mine, maybe condition 3) will apply.

That is what the dealer told me also when I dropped my truck off, which was a big joke in itself and I am running a 100K warranty on mine.

 

It's the little things like this that make buying a Lexus or BMW so attractive. I mean, I bought a new LandCruiser in 2003, I can't imagine anyone dropping 60k on a Toyota getting turned away from a loaner.

 

ask for it in writing.
