Australian Outback Challenge: I've been accepted

Got an email today from Sharyn Vanderhorst, one of the promotors for the WARN ARB Outback Challenge, and my application has been accepted to compete in the 2006 event.

www.outbackchallenge.com

My Trekker is the vehicle being used. Been working on this for the last 3 months (getting accepted to the event) and finally got the email today from Sharyn.

Soooo....Vince and I are going to Australia to be ONE of the 2 teams to represent the U.S. in the next challenge.

Starts in May of 2006

I'll keep you guys posted in this thread with all the details, news, pics, mods, sponsors, etc.

I'm soooo stoked, I can hardly sit still..

Thanks Will,

There's going to be one big fat YOTATECH.COM sticker on my truck for sure and only will post news of this in this forum, on this thread.

Every detail will get posted here.

First is joining the CCDA http://ccda.4wd.org.au/cms/index.php

They are the governing body for the event. I beleive it's called "Challenge Class" for the vehicle rules and regulations.

I'll keep this thread updated the whole way. It takes a day for a reply to get back from Ozz so I asked Sharyn who the other team from the U.S. is? Be curious to meet them and check out their rig of choice.

The logistics will be a PITA. I've gotten quotes for shipping my truck to Sidney and all the details. Time for some sponsors

Perhaps my clothing compnay, Filthy Rich CLothing could be a sponsor????
Every little bit helps, right?

Every little bit does help. Shoot me a PM or I will you. That sounds intertersting and VERY generous of you. It would give you international exposure. I was sent a package of PDF files for the event and one of them contains vehicle markings and where they can be placed. Maybe we can work something out?

Congradulations

Congradulations...and I wish you and your truck the best of luck! Looks like it will be a fun time. I've seen land cruiser 80 series video clips of these and they are wild...
Definitely be sure to keep us updated with LOTS of pics.

Play-by-Play will be right here. Thanks for the encouragement guys.

Here's a link in .PDF to the rules for Challenge Class by the Cross Country Driver's Association

http://www.jonnyquestoffroad.com/out...t Version5.pdf

Here's a link to the supplimental rules.

http://www.jonnyquestoffroad.com/out...es June 05.pdf

This event has vehicle limitations and requirements, one being "Tyres no bigger than 36.5x12.50 or the metric equivelent"

I like that rule

I still think thats too cool. what other mods are you planning to do to the trekker before you head over there and how big of a role will your sponsers be in this? will they be giving you funds for addition mods, travel, food and lodging over there??? too cool!

Out of all the races/events one should attend, this is on the top of my list.

A very outstanding achievement to be a participant! Congrats!
My mother lives in Broken Hill, just outside of where it takes place. Maybe I can time a vacation for the event

Here's a couple pics of how it is now

Just a few more mods to the Trekker, like high steer, and an internal cage and upgraded electronics, definately beadlocks and new meats.

The event is expensive: 2500.00 to enter/4250.00 to ship the truck over and back, plus all the other expenses:sponsorship will have a big role in it, but I"m gonna pony up at least half of all expenses and have been working on this end informally for the last 3 months. Meeting the goal will be a chore, but definately doable.

They just did a deal on Discovery on Broken Hill and it looks AWESOME. The best part of all this will be the month in Australia roaming around. If you do, let me know, my family and friends are already making arrangements for the "Spectator Village"

Whoa, awesome! Take lots of pics and video if possible!

Definately, and ESPN will be covering it as well.
