Removal of Top Out Spacer

My upper ball joint hits my coil when going down curbs fast. After searching it seems like it is not a rare problem. I'm thinking that if I remove the top out spacer I got from bamachem, then it may (hopefully) relieve my problem. My front sits higher than the rear anyways since I still have my stock bumper. I am not sure if there is a write up (I know waskilly has one for replacing stock front suspension w/ ome) for just the top out plate since it is probably so simple, but I wanted to clarify a few things first, as I am no pro...

1. Put truck on jackstands
2. Remove wheel
3. Disconnect swaybar end
4. Remove three top bolts on ?strut tower?
5. Remove bolt from bottom eye of shock.
6. Take out assembly and remove spacer.
7. Reassemble

Q1. Does this sound right?
Q2. Do I need a spring compressor?
Q3. When I remove the bolt from the bottom of the shock, will there be tension in the spring?

Sorry if these questions are redundant. Thanks!

You won't need a spring compressor. There will however be some pressure on the lower shock eye. If you can't get the center bolt off easily you can remove the 4 lower ball joint bolts to take the remaining pressure off. It should go back together easier without the spacer.

Also, the studs will be really long without the spacer...make sure they won't contact anything.

Your steps seem in order so you should be good to go. Its real easy. PM me if you have questions

Thanks Mickdady!

I actually did it before there were any responses (I'm a little impatient ). I did have to remove the 4 lower bolts but it was not to difficult. The hardest part was trying to put the last top nut on with the damn screw being so long and far in the back.

Are these Revtek top out spacers, or ones made by Bamachem?
I'm looking for a set of the Revteks.

who else has this problem.
The fix. Limiting straps, and a little rubber hose cut in half the dampen the bang..
From my searches, it seems as though it is fairly common. I'm looking into limiting straps, but anyone know where can I find them for 3rd gens? I know Sonoran has the brackets to be welded, but are there companies that sell complete kits for this vehicle? I think I found one post with manufacurers, but I don't remember if it was on TTORA or here, and now I can't find it...

Check out this page on Steve's site. It has a list of all the pieces you will need. You can get the same limit straps he had from Kartek or you can go through Mastercraft like I did. The only issue I had was I had to widen the hole on the Mastercraft strap mounting tabs to fit on the Kartek limit strap clevis. I think the Kartek straps fit right on their clevis'. Othere than the strap and clevis, it is Steve's mount, an OEM bolt from Toyota and some washers from Ace.

Mine do it and I intend to put the limiting straps on. If yours droop this much you are at risk of grenading your cvs if you are in a sharp turn, droop, power situation.
