'03 Yota Rear Brake Pads....

Curious - do you have to take off the rear calipers to replace those pads ('03 4Runner)? I had the wheels off the other day and took a quick look - gettin' ready to put new pads in, but from what I remember the rear pads didn't look like they'd slide right out like the front ones do?

Yes on the rear you have to take the claipers off. However the rear pads should last for at least 60k miles. I replaced all my pads at 30k, since I was working on the 4Runner anyway. My front pads had like 60% left and the rear like 80-90%. I would say the front should last 50-60K miles and the rear like 80-90k miles.

OK cool - shouldn't be that difficult I guess. Already picked up new pads for both front & rear ... maybe I'll do the fronts & leave the rears for a little while longer. I'm at 38K mi. and my fronts are pretty far gone. Rear, probably about 50% ... but I've taken quite a few mountain trips & towed a lot, so I'm sure that's increased the wear on 'em. Thx for the info ... didn't see any Haynes manual yet for this thing so I'm just kinda wingin' it ... that is unless anybody has a nice link for a FSM
