Control arm bushings

How hard is it to replace the control arm bushings in a 1992 pickup 4wd? any special tools needed?

It's not fun. I had to torch mine out. Then with a large vice, I was unable to press the new ones in. I had to heat up the metal 'blacksmith style' and force them in while it was still hot and malleable. I was getting some rattling under the truck and I thought it was the lower control arm bushings... I was wrong. All that hell for nothing. Why are you considering this if I may ask?

i have the control arms off my truck right now, was wondering whether it would be worthwhile to put new ones in

considering the trouble you went through, i feel it's something that's better left alone until it needs replacement

You can always take them to a shop with a press and have them press them out for you. I was able to get mine out with this huge vise http://community.webshots.com/photo/...85947798gIQSCg and a these pipe fittings. http://community.webshots.com/photo/...85195196gFQQuE

The new ones go in a lot easier that the old ones come out, or they did for me.
