Gas guage not working, please help

Hi
I have a 1990 Pick-up
3.0
Last week I filled the tank from empty, drove home (bout 20 miles)
Next day I get about 1 1/2 miles and the guage starts dropping
Its sat below the empty mark since, and hasn't moved since
Is this a sending unit or Hopefully just a bad ground ?
Thanks for any help

ground is the most likely possibility, then a faulty sending unit. could also be broken wiring between the sending unit and the gauge or even a faulty gauge itself.

That's a relief
So would it make sense if I take a wire and ground it to the frame and the side of the tank flange the guage should work ?
thanks again

Have you filled up since. If you fill up, and the guage goes back up, then it is a bad sending unit. If it doesn't, probably the ground.

Welcome to toyota gas gauges, I have begun to fill up based on miles traveled on the odometer instead of even looking at the gas gauge anymore.

Sounds like your problem may be simple to repair though, good luck!

Thanks again for the help guys
I have filled up, twice actually
Its still not working right, but it has at least moved
Best I can get so far is 1/2 a tank, even though its almost full
Guess I'm in the same deal as "theryanator" and keep track of the milage.
Better go and buy a new gas can to huh ?
Oh well, I can't complain. The truck has worked flawlessly for me
