Verizon DSL heads-up

For those on Verizon DSL...

Verizon is starting to upgrade it's equipment to support 3mbps download speed. This is 4x faster than the "traditional" DSL speed of 768kbps.

If you're running slower than 3mbps, then you may be eligible to move up.

Give the tech guys a call here: 877-483-5898

If you're not sure what your current line speed is, test it here:
http://sea.speakeasy.net/

Now here's the shocker... (a couple of 'em actually!)

I was at 768/128 (download/upload). I called, got confirmation that my line would support 1.5mbps, and got put into the billing folks. They said "sure we can change you over, no probs!". Shockers:
  1. The rep was as nice as could be
  2. There is NO charge for the switch
  3. The rep noted that I could _save_ money if I agree to a 1 year plan (I was paying $37.95/month and a 1 year commitment would put me to $29.99.month).
  4. The rep said the switch should happen in 2-3 days, it happened in 10 minutes! (no equipment swap required)

So... I'm now at 1.5/384 and paying $8 less per month!

It's a banner day!

I'm at 685/131 without upgrading. Thanks Mark - I'm making the call!

Lemme know how it works out for you Mike. I'd love to know that this wasn't just a local "win".

oh, a side note....

Once you get reconfigured, at "some point" your line will go down. This is the router on the head end being reconfigured to open up the speed limiter. Give it a couple of minutes, then pull the plug on your modem and plug it back in. That'll reset things and you should be up running.

In theory, you don't "need" to reboot the modem, but i like to start clean when there have been line changes.

I just got off the whone with the tech people and they upgraded mine also. It was at 26/135 kpbs up/down. Not sure what it is now, they said I won't notice untill tomarow but they upgraded me to 1.5 also. the 3.0 is not available in my area.

wow.. thats good stuff to hear about.... ive ran into all sorts of problems with verizon DSL. Not to flame them or anything but the hotel i use to work for used verizon and 4 out of 10 days that i would go in for work, it would be working! Guests complained sooo much until we changed to adelphia's cable. My GF got V's DSL and it was alwasy disconnecting- parobably all this is just my luck or just the areas (too bad for me).. but for the rest of you im glad that you guys are experience the good side with them! I use adelphia at home and they are AWESOME!! Cable works 24/7- no complaints here!
