Noisy engine, I thinnk it is the crankshaft

Well as many of you know, I have the infamous noisy engine. It sounds like a diesel. Yet when I first start the truck, it is nice and quiet. As it warms up, click click click. Well one day I was under the truck when it was running (don't ask me to explain) and I could hear the majority of the noise from the oil pan. Now of course there is lots of metal that the sound, wherever its origin, can reverberate. With that said, I think I have bottom end trouble.

So just for giggles, can I pull of the oil pan to inspect the rods and bearings? If of the bearings turns out to be bad, can I replace all the bearing and rods from underneath the motor? I know a guy who replaced his crank in a 6.2 liter GM.

Any thoughts?

you probably have a cracked exhaust manifold, silent when started but as it warms up it sounds like a diesel

The kind of engine would be useful. If you say it's a 3.0, you need to search. How well does it run?
