Why would the engin light come on at 5000 miles? Had first service done at 4100 miles at dealer.

 

only way to know is to have the code pulled. since its a brand new runner, take it to the stealership and have them worry about it.

 

The Maintance light comes on every 5,000 miles... Is that what you are talking about or your actual CEL?

Main Light, you need to turn off the vehicle, hold down the button that clears out the odometer, start the car, still holding the button and wait 5 seconds, that should clear it out.

If it is the CEL, try tightening the gas cap first.

If nothing works, go back to the dealer.

 

To clarify what Rivalred has stated, the "maintenance" light comes on as a reminder to change the oil, that's it. If it is the CEL, take it to the dealership.

 

I second that you take it back to the dealer. Most likely it is something very small like the gas cap that is loose or something similar. I noticed on the Lexus GX forums that some people has small holes or cracks in their carbon emissions canister. They kept getting CEL and the code showed Gas cap even though they didn't fillup for a week. So see if they fix it first and if it is only a small issue.
