POLL: How long has your computer been on?

Well, technically the hard drive. This is what the thread is about.

As some of you know, virtually all hard drives manufactured since around 1996 support S.M.A.R.T, which stands for "Self Monitoring And Reporting Technology". It is like an odometer on a vehicle, just mode advanced.

Two of the many things that S.M.A.R.T keeps track of is how many times the hard drive has been cycled, and how many hours it has been on, since birth.

There are many utilities available for retrieving S.M.A.R.T data, but here is one only 44kB in size and requiring no installation. Just run "DiskCheckup.exe".

So let's make a small knowledge base, with general satisfaction comments, based on what hard drives you own/owned. I'll start with 5 drives, in chronological order that were in my desktop computer:

Is that power on time in Hours? If it is, it translates to 188 years.

When was the last time you ran a defrag on your drive? Might want to look into your high rate of read and seek error rates.

That's the bad thing. There is no real standardization for S.M.A.R.T. data. Some drives store power on time in hours, some in seconds. Great idea to counteract the least reliable component in a computer, the hard drive, bad idea not to standardize.
