2 Problems, same issue?
Check engine light is Chilton # F12563 Air-Fuel Ratio Rich Malfunction. In the touble area is the Coolant temp sensor?
2nd problem: In the summer my A/C is super cold and then shuts off with no Check Engine light. I know some Toyota/Lexus' shut down the A/C system when other areas have problems, but do not let you know.
Could these 2 be related? I have owned this rig for 3 years now with out any other issues.

According to the Chilton guide and the internet, the 3VZ-VE in my 2nd Gen runner does not have an MAF or a Coolant Temp Sensor. All my hoses past the air filter were spotless?
After clearing the code, it came back - Too Rich on the Air/Fuel mix. Now what?

 

I doubt the two are related....

A 3vze does not have a MAF, but rather has a VAFM (vane air flow meter.) It also does have a coolant temp sensor - thats what the ECT mod is predicated upon. I believe toyota calls it the "engine coolant temp sensor." As far as rich condition it could be anything that might restrict air flow or to add too much fuel....

TPS, fuel injectors, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, air filter, occlusions in the intake, loose vacuum line, etc are what comes to mind right now....

Just got back from wheelin in the snow and reset the light. It was off for 4 days, no running probs and it came back on 10 miles from home - perhaps it does not like where I live? Back to diagnosing...

 

My CEL has been on for over a year - no problems encountered.
same crappy gas mileage as before it came on. No power problems
I believe that I need to replace the Oxygen sensor but the price has kept
me from doing it. Oh - the CEL periodically goes out and does not come back for several days. I'm just leaving it alone.

 

I'd put money on the CEL being a faulty O2 sensor. As for the AC, systems usually have a low pressure cut-off switch that kills the compressor when the line pressure gets too low. Have the wiring and the switch checked and/or get the freon system re-filled.
