Truck Owners - Prevent the theft of your amp(s)

I've had my truck broken into so many times, luckily though, I've been a real ass about not leaving anything in the truck, so I remove my amp and sub every time I leave the car... Ofcourse it's a real pain!!!

Anyways, so I thought about it for a while, and I came up with a cool idea to prevent the amp from being stolen:

If you have an extended cab pickup, then in the extended cab part under the driver's side passenger's seat is a compartment (this is where I have my amp). I purchased a truck club and extended it inside of this compartment - now the amp is essentially "behind bars" - the thieves can do whatever they want, but unless they have welding equipment or power tools with them, there's no way they can get that amp out now.

comments & suggesting welcome... I'm also considering a steel harness for the sub enclosure...

this last time they broke the little triagle window that folds out on the passenger's side - stealer was pretty affordable - $30 for new glass

and about 3 or 4 months before it was broken into right in front of my house in SF... it's probably the clean look and the tinted windows... I'll be getting one of those paging alarms soon

I'm having a hard time grasping what you're describing. Any pictures?

I just hid a Civil Defense air raid siren behind my dash board. When the alram triggers, it begins wailing away. Its loud enough to rattle my windows if thier rolled up.

How easy would it be though - to break apart the factory sheet metal... I mean this stuff is solid enough to get sat on, stepped on, walked on... Wouldn't it at least be a pain?

a theif will take what is easily grabbed, not what is going to require the amount of work to break a bar off of the metal, just to take the amp out,

i say that your fine with your plan,

If you get an alarm, limo tint in the back and take off your face off the stereo, most times people will assume you have nothing in the truck. We don't have the flashiest trucks persay.
In my experience thieves only go for what they know they can get, and when they don't know whats in your truck theres no point in breaking the window to find out. Even if you get the pager though, what does that accomplish? At least you'll know they're running off with your amp?

I already have limo tint and I always remove my faceplate the point of the pager would be to run down there and smash someone's face in... and the amp is practically impossible to get with my new strategy... pics later today!

Good idea about the club. In my old 91 toyota pickup, I took out my bench seat and screwed the amp into the floor. Replace the seat and there is no way they are gonna get the amp out. I had a box with 2-12's bolted into the rear of the cab too.

My truck got broken into and all the were able to get were the 6 1/2's I had in my doors.

Heck, after I got my Runner broken in to, I moved the amp behind a body panel. If I need to take my sub out all I have to do is just unhook it from the speaker wire I have running from the amp.

a VERY sensative alarm and VERY loud AIR HORNS combined with no one knowing I have a system, combined with me not advertising my system by bassing near my residence has kept my system safe.....

putting those amps there is a great idea. I had mine there untill I crossed at the teller county car wash and filled the cab with river water.

Really though it works great though with plenty of room for wires and enough air space to keep most amps cool.
Peace and good luck... Jay....
