Finding room for "goodies" in the Tacoma/Runner cockpit

I actually started talking about this in another post, but I didn't want to gum up Bob's cool post about the console/cup holder mod.

Corey and I were discussing trying to fit lots of radios and gadgets into the somewhat "cramped" confines of the Tacoma cockpit. I would imagine the situation is similar for the 4Runner.

Here is where we left off:

Baja, you might check out this Aussie site.

I might end up getting a single radio one for my roof.
It uses all the stock holes from the lights up there.

The CB I have now is huge, so putting it on my roof would make it easier to get too.

Corey, that site is a cool find - thanks. Believe me though, I have definitely considered an overhead console. But, I decided against it for a couple of reasons. For one, my head (and the passenger's head) is already close enough to the ceiling of the cabin without adding a lower elevation object like the console. I keep thinking of how I would bang my head into it trying to reach across the cab, or in the event of an accident. The other reason is that I like having all of the controls and displays in a really easy location for my eyes and hands while I am driving. So, I am planning on having all of my radios (MP3, CB, and 2-Meter) all in one central column to my right for easy viewing and controlling while driving (especially at night).

This pic shows all but the 2m radio and the GPSR. The 2m radio will be going into the location where you see the aux. fuel gauge currently. It will be angled up so the display can be seen easily. The fuel gauge will be relocated over to the left of the e-brake handle. The GPSR now resides just above the center A/C vents on a rotating cradle. I'll get an updated pic after I get the 2m radio installed.

The blue switches you see in the clock location are for the forward aux. lights, rock lights, and rear aux. lights. The red rocker switch down near the bottom center is the aux. fuel transfer switch.
