Changing power steering belt

I've searched but haven't found any write ups on changing a 2nd gen p/u power steering belt. It appears to me that I have to take off the fan shroud to change the belt. I am a little worried because it looks like it might be a little hard to reconnect the shroud back on. Some tips would be great if anyone has replaced theirs, thanks

-Andrew

i just did mine this morning. the hardest part about removing the shroud is getting to the bolts. once their out, the shroud will come out fairly easy. the adjustment bolt on the ps pump bracket is hard to get to as well. i used a flex-head gear wrench, and did it a little at a time. im not sure if you HAVE to take the shroud off or not,, mine was already off due to other repairs.

I have changed my power steering belt three or four times and have never taken the fan shroud off. You take the alternator/fan belt off first. Then loosen the bolt on the tensioner pulley bolt and then the tension bolt enough to take the belt off. This is for the 22RE. It might be different for the 3VZE.

I just got done replacing it, I dont have a set of those gear renches so I had to take out the battery, and it was a little easier to get to.

I don't think they fit around the fan....well mine didn't (3.0l) so I had to take it all apart.....and scrapped my knuckles up on the rad in the process.....I'd change both belts so you don't have to do this any time soon.

It will fit around the fan if you maneuver the belt between the fan blades. No way that I can see removing the shroud is necessary.

Hmmm....maybe I have the wrong fan on my 4runner? But my fan is huge, plastic, and there is no openings on the fan blade?? Its one plastic hoop with the blades inside?? Well the description sucks but someone will know what I'm talking about when they look at their 3.0 engine.....I thought it was weird looking myself and left me scratching my head.....like when I changed the fuel filter and the PCV valve....the WTF were they thinking followed....

You don't need to take the fan or shroud off. It takes a bit of time but you can wrangle the belt around the fan then between the fan and shroud. Thats the way it works on my 90.

Well you learn something new every day and the next time I have to change my belts (PLEASE NOT ANYTIME SOON!) I will try to get the belts off this way.....But just a question your talking about the same fan right? Big white plastic fan thats one solid peice? No openings between each fan blade?
