Hey all-
My passenger side front drive shaft needs to be replaced. The CV boot cracked and all the grease is everywhere. I can get a rebuilt shaft for $100 if I installed it or $150 if they installed it.
My question is - how hard is it to replace the shaft?
I've looked at my Haynes manual and my Chiltons and still just don't grasp the concept :confused:. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined and always willing to try anything. Can someone hit me on the head and light the way, please? I just need a little more detail on how to replace it.

Jeff the Marmot over on the Wire knows a good deal about what's involved. I thing he made a pretty detailed post about it when he did his manual hub conversion. A search for "Tacoma Axles" over there on SUV should take you right to it.

I know that you will need a 36 mm socket where on my old junk it takes a 54mm. Lots of penetrating oil elbow grease will be needed to get the shaft to diff bolts loose. I broke a Craftsman 17mm wrench doing those the first time.
