Toyota chooses XM Radio

Automaker Toyota Motor Corp. will offer XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc.'s service as a factory-installed option starting in 2006, XM said on Tuesday.

Customers buying Toyota and Lexus vehicles can opt to install XM radio, which like archrival Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. provide nationwide music, talk and sports programming for a monthly fee, before the car is shipped to a local dealer.

XM will be a factory installed option, folks will also be able to order Sirius tuners as a dealer installed option.

BOO!!

At least Sirius is an option...

Either way, it will be cheaper to get a Plug-in-play unit, than spend $400+ for the Factory setup!

That is upsetting...but I agree with just getting a removeable unit anyway. Nevertheless, maybe Sirius stock will dive soon so I can buy it up.

I'm not so sure about this being bad, as I understand it, SIRIUS has not had the money to pay it's employee's properly for the last 8-12 months but can sign huge monster deals for huge numbers. I read somewhere unless they get another million subscribers before Stern gets there, they will not be able to afford him, and even with the million new signup's they are just breaking even. This could be complete non-sense but there stock is not worth much and there must be a reason for it.

Ok I'll admit I'm biased I have XM and like it better, but I would not want to sling out money for a service that could go under at any minute.

I have never heard that. There is a rumor that Sirius is going to join forces with Apple on the next gen i-pod.

There are no posts about Sirius going under on siriusbackstage.com

Even if they did claim bankruptcy, I am sure that someone would buy it...

I have never known a fan of something bash it, they usually avoid the topic. The info was from someone who used to work for Siruis and did not recieve a paycheck for a few months. Supposidly this is still happening (the non-pay issue). IMO they are pushing hard (free equipment, Stern) because they need the income.
