FSM downloads

Not *exactly* on topic, but *very* useful --

You may have seen the 1993 pickup FSM (search this forum) or 2003 Tacoma FSM (seach the 4x4wire.com Tacoma forum) online. I wanted a complete copy of those websites, for the day when they get taken down. It would kill me to click click click the nights away getting this done by hand...

So I looked around for some software that would allow me to download entire websites, following all the links, and setting up the documents in recursive folders on my own computer, totally browseable offline. I found a couple of programs, most of them have a free trial period, but they are limitted by the number of pages per "project". In other words, doesnt do the whole job for these FSMs, not even close.

Then I came across one called WebCopier. You can google it or go to Tucows. This prog doesnt have a # limit to the pages during the free trial period (15 days). It took about 20 minutes per FSM (the two mentioned above), and now they are safe on my own network.

I'm so stoked about that job that I am considering buying the program. I have hundreds of dollars worth of manuals now for free! The program is only $30 or so.

Hope this helps some of you who are as neurotic as I am about this kind of ˟˟˟˟e. Laters-

HTTrack WEbsite Copier is a free program that lets you copy websites and browse offline. http://www.httrack.com
Its open source so you wont get nagged for info and get spammed.
I used it for the 2003 Taco FSM took about 8mins to get the whole site.

My '93 FSM page at http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...fsm/index.html should stay up as long as I don't flunk out here at TU or anything, but if I do I'll find somewhere else to put it . I think I've used that webcopier program, or one just like that, for some stuff before. Those programs like that are really pretty cool. Also try using http://www.waybackmachine.org/ , it is some sort of internet archive site. For those FSM sites, and sites with information like them, put the URL in the wayback machine website. Once you let it know you want that site, it will download it and put it in the database. Then you can always get to the site from the wayback machine. It is a pretty good site for finding old stuff you thought was gone.
