Question 85 4runner - beautiful nightmare!?!

i'm new to the yota forums...and relatively newbie to the world of 4runners, but have researching feverishly the last few weeks as i'm in the market for a solid rig...this evening in my efforts to educated myself and find the one...i spotted this unit

http://www.buysell.com/showad.asp?id=29379159

i called the kid who bought it in the spring...he claimed he didn't know much of the history of the vehicle, but that it has a recently rebuilt top end and trans, newer exhaust, good int, bodywork and newish paint...but get this that the odometer reads 550,000 Kms...what in your expert opinions' is one to do..??..beside gettng a mechanical inspection...regardless, i can't help feeling as though this is not unlike falling in love with the kind of woman your mother warned you about...any advice would be much appreciated...cheers!!!

Seems to be to expensive imo. Did you drive it and what was that like? you could do a VIN search and that should tell you alot.

I paid ten for my 90 4runner last summer in North Vancouver. Toyotas are worth a lot more locally there than in the rest of the country. No rust is the biggest reason. No snow means no salt or gravel on the roads of course. Check out www.BC4x4.com in the for sale section as well to get a better handle on prices in the lower mainland. 4800 does seem a little high for that many km's.

A friend of mine paid $3750 Canadian for a '85 22re Runner with 250,000km. It's a decent truck and not completely worn out.

Mike.

I think that if it drives sound than get it you can't go wrong with a toyota.
The best way to look at it is if it does break down than you just have to do those mods sooner.
